The museum complex with the Veßra monastery is undoubtedly one of the interesting destinations in the Hirschbach area.
Seldom you will find object that can surprise you so much by its size.
The west side of the basilica with the two towering towers is still very well preserved from the Romanesque monastery, whose numerous remains of buildings are surrounded by a park-like area. Exhibitions provide information about the history of the monastery and the structures.
The most interesting part for us is the village from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Century. Some of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in the Henneberger Land were removed and rebuilt here as an ensemble. Fully furnished with a contemporary inventory, they give the impression that the residents have just left their houses.
We particularly liked the fully functional water mill and the brewery, where beer is brewed again.
There is also a lot on offer for technically savvy visitors: a tractor exhibition and the turbine museum in the former monastery mill.
The turbine is also used to generate electricity for the museum.
