History
Hotel «Zum golden Hirsch» was built around 1900 in a Franconian half-timbered building. Until 1990 it was the cultural center of events in the village of Hirschbach, near Suhl in southern Thuringia. Once privately owned, it often changed hands.
The building was never used for other purposes. Until it was taken over by the holiday service, it was always an inn with a dining room, club room and large hall including a stage: the rooms above were used as living space. In the courtyard there was a beer cellar with an arbor-like beer garden and a shooting range above. All of the village's festivals were celebrated there. The highlight was the traditional village fair, which took place annually on Whitsun. In 1972 the FDGB Feriendienst took over the inn.
Structural changes were made both inside and outside, but relatively little has changed in the characteristic appearance of the facade. In the FDGB-Heim Haus II, as it was now called, the gastronomic and cultural care of the vacationers took place. The locals could also take part in the events.
The rooms on the first floor and the attic served as guest rooms and also as living space for the employees. In honor of Suhl's native composer Herbert Roth, who premiered the famous “Rennsteig song” in the inn on April 15, 1951, the name “Ferienpension Herbert Roth” was given on June 10, 1990. After reunification, the Reiner and Ilona Gründig family took over the traditional house and invested in a sauna and a new beer garden, among other things.
The «Fratzscher» butcher's shop found a new home in the adjoining rooms. In 2008 it was quiet in the «Golden Deer». After bankruptcy proceedings, new owners were found in 2010 who brought the «Golden Deer» back to life. A lot has been invested so that numerous guests can spend a relaxing holiday in the beautiful Thuringian Forest and the locals can celebrate their parties.
